RENO, Nev. (AP)— Longtime Reno City Manager Charles McNeely is stepping down to take the same job in San Bernardino, Calif., beginning June 1.
McNeely, who has held the position for 13 years, was the unanimous pick Thursday of the San Bernardino City Council.
His contract sets his salary at $275,000 per year, minus a 10 percent giveback due to the recession. It also includes $73,000 in other perks.
In Reno, his salary of $255,088 is the most of any city manager in the state.
Reno Mayor Bob Cashell praised McNeely, calling him a ``great leader'' who will be hard to replace.
McNeely says San Bernardino faces many of the same economic development and revitalization challenges he encountered in Reno.
Reno has a population of 205,000 and San Bernardino 223,000.
