RENO, Nev. (AP) --A community center in Reno is being renamed after an 82-year-old woman who has been gathering and distributing holiday food for the needy for more than three decades.
Reno Mayor Bob Cashell was among the more than 100 people turned out Thursday for a ceremony celebrating the new name of the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center.
``I was shocked,'' Mount said. ``But I thank God for it. I had a chance to see a lot of people.''
Mount moved to Reno from California with her late husband, Leon, in June 1978, and distributed 24 bags of Thanksgiving groceries to needy families that year. Soon after, they founded the Community Outreach program that distributes the food and the annual giveaways now approach 10,000.
