RENO—International Women¹s Day celebration, March 8, and a series of events offered throughout the Truckee Meadows reflect on the progress women have made toward equality, peace and development.

March, 8, 2009, marks the day celebrated around the world as International Women¹s Day, since 1987 the U.S. Congress has proclaimed the entire month of March as National Women¹s History Month. In observance of National Women¹s History Month, Northern Nevada organizations, agencies and educators will be offering events, activities and lectures throughout March in the Truckee Meadows. Many are free and all are open to the community.

The Changing Face of Medicine: Celebrating America¹s Women Physicians Exhibition: through March 26 Weekly speakers series: Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. through March Location: Northwest Library, 2325 Robb Dr., Reno A traveling national exhibition is on display, made possible by a grant from the American Library Association in collaboration with the Washoe County Library System, the University of Nevada School of Medicine and Savitt Medical Library. University of Nevada, Reno Women¹s Studies Program presents A New Faculty Lecture Series on Gender, Race and Identity with lecture by Brett Van Hoesen, Ph.D. March 4, 4 p.m. Location: Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, Room 124, University of Nevada, Reno. Assistant professor of modern and contemporary art at the University of Nevada, Reno, Brett M. Van Hoesen will present ³Girls, Monkeys, and Zebras ‹ More Than Just A Game,² an examination of visual references to the so-called New Woman during the Weimar Republic from the standpoint of colonial politics of the 1920s. Truckee Meadows Community College presents The Distinguished Speaker Series with lecture by Maggy Anthony March 5, 2 p.m. Location: Vista Building, Room 206 B, Truckee Meadows Community College, Dandini Campus, Reno Retired therapist Maggy Anthony, author of Jung¹s Circle of Women: The Valkyries, will present TMCC¹s Distinguished Speaker Series lecture ³Jung¹s Circle of Women: Older Women ‹ Role Models and Reality,² about their influences on her experiences at the C.G.
