RENO, Nev. (AP) _ Reno police say efforts to target busy intersections for traffic and safety enforcement is paying off with few serious crashes.

Police Lt. David Evans says in 2008, statistics show fatal accidents declined 35 percent, while injury crashes were down 6.4 percent. Additionally, pedestrian fatalities fell by 50 percent.

Statistics for the four years from 2005 through 2008 show nine fatal crashes in 2008, compared to 14 the previous year, 17 in 2006, and 16 in 2005.

There were three pedestrians killed last year, compared with six in 2007, seven in 2006 and five in 2005.

Injury crashes dropped to 1,113, compared with 1,189 the year before.
