LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Teachers and parents are urging Democrats to reject Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons' proposed cuts in education.
More than 600 people attended a rally Saturday at Chaparral High School in Las Vegas.
Protesters carried signs reading ``A pay cut is a tax increase'' and ``Will teach for food.'' Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley and state Senate Majority Steven Horsford, both Democrats, addressed the group.
Gibbons is seeking a 6 percent pay cut for teachers and an 15 percent decrease in spending on K-12 education compared to current levels.
The rally was organized by the Clark County Education Association, the teachers' union.
