Grandmother killed in shooting at Sparks home



RENO, Nev. (AP) _ A grandmother was shot and killed dead after gunfire was exchanged with police at a Sparks home.



Reno police say Sparks police officers went to the house around noon Saturday to check on the welfare of a 7-year-old child.



Reno Police Department Lt. Robert McDonald says the shooting happened while the officer were talking with residents at the home. The grandmother of the child was pronounced dead at the scene.



No police officers were injured.



McDonald would not say who shot at police or who fired the shots that killed the woman.



The incident will be investigated by Reno police.
